Fenton-Jones joins Taurus

Mark Fenton-Jones (photo credit: Taurus Marketing)Seasoned journalist Mark Fenton-Jones has started work at PR agency Taurus Marketing.

The agency hired Fenton-Jones as part of a new thrust to bolster its content expertise. He will oversee the creation of case studies, timing releases of custom marketing items for newsworthiness, and share advice on media strategies, among other tasks.  

Fenton-Jones wields over 30 years’ experience in the media circuit, with most of it attained at the Australian Financial Review as writer and editor for enterprise, professional services, and special reports.

We’ve been friends for many years from when he first interviewed me for the AFR and it’s a great joy to have someone I know so well on team. Daylight opens new government relations arm

Boutique communications outfit The Daylight Agency has established a special government relations team.

The new section will handle the agency’s work with accounts for government bodies and political organisations.

To this end, the agency hired licenced solicitor David Begg (pictured) to manage the department. He has around 30 years’ experience working in government circles and several industries, partly as a government relations and advocacy consultant.

“We are extremely pleased David has chosen to join us at a time when we are undergoing significant growth. Along with his commercial acumen, David brings an extensive political network and a deep understanding of government relations and strategy,” said Daylight Agency managing director Chris Gray.

“I am looking forward to working closely with our clients to analyse issues and develop action plans that are workable within both the political and commercial arenas,” said Begg of his appointment.

Ogilvy-BMW partnership ends

Ogilvy Australia’s partnership with the Australian arm of German automaker BMW Group is over.

An Ogilvy representative stated that both companies have agreed not to renew their contract after it recently finished. BMW Group Australia and Ogilvy have been partners since the early 1990s, with the work remit covering sales and marketing for BMW and Mini.

As a result, BMW Group has started to entertain applications for new creative partners.

New Melbourne office set for LEWIS APAC expansion project

Comms agency LEWIS’ APAC regional expansion plan will bring a new Melbourne office alongside several in Asia.

The company revealed today that under the plan, codenamed APAC 2020 大湾区 (da wan qu), LEWIS’ Sydney operations will have an expanded labour pool, including new staff for an on-site digital hub.

Melbourne will host one of eight new offices that the agency will establish in the Asia-Pacific region. The other seven are in Thailand, China, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

WPP AUNZ is set for improved community relationships with The Bond & Associates, a specialized stakeholder/community engagement agency.

WPP keep BP account

Communications outfit WPP has retained representation for global energy provider BP.

The services retained in the wake of an account review begun last year.

While WPP keeps the BP account, it will assemble a special taskforce to manage BP’s work on advertising, PR, media investment management, digital media, marketing communication and branding services, and brand research. Called Team Energy, the group will comprise staff from all WPP member-agencies.

Ogilvy ANZ lands Wotif gig

Ogilvy ANZ has won the representation rights for online accommodation company Wotif.

The agency earned the account after three months of negotiations.

The new partnership calls for Ogilvy to handle Wotif’s brand, creative, PR, social media, and content creation duties. Select personnel from Ogilvy’s offices in Brisbane, Sydney, and Auckland will be assigned to the account.

Host/Havas earns Chatime representation

PR agency Host/Havas has won the account for the Australian operations of Taiwanese tea-house drink chain Chatime.

Under a new partnership, Host/Havas will handle the company’s Australia-wide brand awareness development and communications efforts for the 14-25 age demographic. One target message Chatime is looking to accomplish is position its products for customers seeking refreshment in the afternoons.

The chain, which offers various flavoured fresh and milk teas with tapioca pearls, currently has at least 80 branches across the country. It is also in the midst of developing new flavours.
